“..And to tie all those memory and knowledge, you need to write it down,” said a teacher when I am in Junior Highschool.
Besides that, the organization I work with obligates me to write about daily situations I am facing during the Job Shadowing, in Madrid. Wait, to get the context, starting from 2nd to 14th August of 2022, I was representing Act Global to follow the Job Shadowing Program of Social Media Literacy for #womanrights in Las Rozas, Madrid, Spain.
Arriving safely in Madrid on 2nd August 2022, the host of the organization picked us up at the airport, we met her in the exit building of the airport and she brought us straight to the apartment.
Arriving at the apartment, I meet with the other participant, say hi, and go to my room. My roommate is already inside, and his name is Ton, I met him when he hosted us in Bangkok, and we host him back in Bali. So, we do not need to introduce ourselves further, because we already know each other.
Because we are going to stay for two weeks, Camilla again helps us out by taking us to the supermarket. We bought some groceries and food to eat during these 14 days.
Going back to the apartment, the other ask me to go to the city center, and I could not resist, because I do not want to miss the city.
Background, so we live in the apartment in Las Rozas, it was actually in Madrid, but it's like a township or suburban area near to the city center, it needs approximately 30 to 40 minutes to the city center by train.
But to reach the nearest station from the apartment, we need to walk like 25 minutes. The train station is named, Pinar Las Rozas. I had to remember the name because I don't want to get lost to someplace that I don't know.
Even though it was a small station, it has a few lines that indicate that this station is important. This means this station will take you to another destination.
During the broad daylight of summer, Madrid peaks at the highest temperature, when we walk on the pavement to the station, the sun is so hot and dry. In the city center of Madrid, we visited several famous places.
I remembered, we dropped by at the station named Sol, and it was basically in the middle of the city. we walk through Gran Via. catching up and taking pictures in front of Banco de Spain, moving to Plaza Mayor, and ending up in the Royal Palace and the Catedral de la Almudena.
Except for the hot temperature, I do really enjoy spending time in the city center of Mardrid. I like old buildings, they give me a sense of the statement of old is gold is true. I like how they so well place and make the city well enjoyed.
I also love to see people come and go on its road, something that I rarely see in Indonesia or Bali because people always move with their machines that drink of fossil gas. Seeing a sreet full of people is sometimes mesmerizing to watch. to see how they interact and listen to its language kind of makes us true sapiens.
The first day for me went easy, I thought the obstacle should be the groceries part, but it was solved as Camilla take us to the supermarket. What really becomes the obstacle is perhaps, the weather, I do not know if the summer is gonna be this hot and dry.
And for the other part, I think miss something when I buy the food earlier. what I mean is I did not buy a complete of food to live for two weeks, but, Camilla taking us to the supermarket was my best solution, because I think, the supermarket little bit too far, so it really help me. We went to Lidle, a nice convenient supermarket with a cheap price.
Back when I was doing a volunteer activity in Portugal, I really like to go to this supermarket, it remains me a lot about its food and European vibes that I remembered, it is funny isn't it, staying for 6 months in a European city and what I remember the most is its supermarket :)
Meanwhile, yes, the temperature is so hot, but I think I can cope with it, I mean this hot summer in Madrid is pretty much on a daily basis in Bali, except here is super dry. I think the solution is we have to wear sunblock or comfy clothes when we go outside. The food? It's not the problem right now, because I bring almost 20 Indomie. So, is okay for me.
